Pashto Poetry

Pashto poetry (پښتو شاعري) is a large, living body of verse shared by Pashtun communities in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the diaspora. Much of it still moves through oral forms such as tappa (ټپه / لنډۍ), short couplets that travel quickly in conversation and online.

Early named authors such as Amir Kror Suri belong to the first centuries of written Pashto. Later centuries brought Pir Roshan and his Khair-ul-Bayan, a key text for Sufi thought in Pashto, and Akhund Darweza with works such as Makhzanul Islam, which answered rival schools in clear scholarly prose and verse.

Readers still return to Khushal Khan Khattak for martial clarity, to Rahman Baba for gentle mysticism, and to modern writers such as Khan Abdul Ghani Khan for lyrics that mix humor, doubt, and love of land. Long-lined nazm and refrain-based ghazal both stay in daily use.

On PoetryPashto you will find typed poems, often with Roman letters beside the original script, plus images or PDFs when a post supplies them. Open an author category from the sidebar, or use Older posts and More Poems to walk deeper into the archive.
